October 23, 1836 - Cambridge City Platted
Platted on October 23, 1836, the town was called Vandalia originally, in a slightly different location. When the town moved to its current location, it was renamed Cambridge City. Vandalia Street commemorates the original name.  Cambridge city became a transportation hub that prospered when the Whitewater Canal reached the town in 1846. The canal only operated until 1849 when it closed due to flooding washing it out. The city still uses an open section to celebrate its annual "Canal Days" event.
Cambridge City has evolved into an antique store Mecca with several stores offering exquisite selections of goods. The Overbeck sisters operated the Overbeck Art Pottery from 1911 until 1955.
