Workers laid the corner stone for the stone church in Oldenburg on September 8, 1846. Built under the direction of Father Franz Joseph Rudolf, the new church replaced the St. Mary's Log church constructed around 1837. The church had a distinctive onion dome. It would serve the Catholic community of Oldenburg until Holy Family Church replaced it in 1862. After Father Rudolf's death in 1866 the Franciscan friars lived in the church, converting it into a monastery that included twenty-four cells, two study rooms, library and kitchen. By 1894, the Friars expanded the monastery, incorporating the old stone church into the monastery. The onion dome was removed in 1949. The church once again saw the light of day when the monastery was razed in 1986. The church now serves as a rectory after its remodeling in 1985.
