Tanner's Creek consists of two forks, an east fork which begins east of Lawrenceville, Indiana which begins about .25 miles from the intersection of Taylorsville and Old Hickory Roads. It flows approximately 20 miles through Dearborn County on its way to the Ohio River. The West Fork begins near North Dearborn Road between Shantz and Lawrenceville Roads. The West Fork is bounded first by Happy Hollow Road, Bonnell Road and finally intersects the East Fork just east of Guilford, Indiana. It is bounded by Cook Road and Indiana State Road 1 during much of its course.

Tanners Creek drains nearly 68,000 acres consisting of almost all crop or forest land. Navigable from its junction with the Ohio River in Lawrenceburg for 10.6 river miles.
