Major William Houghton, a Civil War Veteran, built this house in 1835. He was the president of the White River Bank. The house is one of two stage coach houses in Martin County. It was also a part of the Underground Railroad. It can be found southeast of Loogootee, a little less that a half mile east of the Houghton Bridge across the White River.
