Laughery Creek runs beside the town on the west and then the south side on its way to the Ohio River.
Hart's Mill was established with the advent of a post office on February 3, 1837. Hiram A. Hart was the postmaster. William Hart platted the town on July 5, 1849, keeping the name Hart's Mill. On January 14, 1868 the name was changed to Friendship, Indiana.
Friendship is the home of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association (www.nmlra.org/)National range and the Friendship Flea Market. Indiana State Road 62 bisects the small town on its way east to US Route 50.
